Please speak out against the high speed rail boondoggle and vote ”Yes – the project is doomed” in this poll:
When California voters narrowly
approved the high speed rail project, we were told the train would cost $45 billion. Now, the rail authority is saying it could cost $120 billion for just the portion from LA and San Francisco.
At the rail authority’s current estimate of up to $226 million per mile of track, the whole system would cost a whopping $180 billion. Some are saying the cost could easily exceed $200 billion when it’s all over.
Californians approved spending $45 billion, not $180 billion for high speed rail! And that was in 2008, when we were in a better position economically than we are now.
Audits of our existing infrastructure shows our highway system is crumbling and our roads are ranked among the nation’s worst. Our budget shortfall is almost $20 billion. And even if they build the train and actually get the project done – it’s more likely if they start it will be a train to nowhere that never gets completed – it won’t even be done until 2030!
Imagine, a family whose house is facing foreclosure. One spouse has lost their job. They have bills stacking up they can’t pay. And then the husband walks in the door and says he’s just bought a brand new $50,000 Mercedes on credit. A good idea? No way! High speed rail is just as bad of an idea.
